Hunter or Shooting Complaints

There have been several complaints to the Property Owners Association (POA) about non-property owners discharging weapons on Windmill Ranch. The POA has no authority in this matter.

Arizona Fish and Game Department and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office advice follows:
  • Both agencies advise against confronting the people. They recommend contacting the appropriate office and “being a good witness” by providing a description of the vehicle, license plate number, number of persons, etc.

  • Both offices advised that they can’t TELL you not to confront the shooters. Part of the trespass law says that you must ask the person to leave your private property if it is not properly signed and marked.

  • For hunting related issues contact AZ Fish and Game at (928) 692-7700.

  • Contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office for all other firearms related issues.
    911 is appropriate for emergency notifications or (928) 753-0753 for non-emergency issues.
We property owners must mark our land properly to inform the public that we do not give permission to enter our property. These requirements are contained in A. R. S. 17-304.

You can’t interfere with people legally hunting. See A. R. S. 17-316.

Please note that there are very few Arizona regulations that deal with shooting other than hunting. One common misconception is that it is illegal to discharge a firearm within 1/4 mile of a residence… the words “while taking wildlife” are usually omitted but this rule ONLY applies to people actively hunting, see A. R. S. 17-309 paragraph A. 4.
